Noted in Kelly's Directory of 1911: "the font is Perpendicular". Described and illustrated in the Parish web site [http://www.coggesparish.com/southleigh/inscrip/history.htm]: "The font itself is 15th century; in the 19th century it was coverless; the cover was designed by Sebastian Comper in 1948." The font consists of an octagonal basin with slightly tapering plain sides, just a thin moulding near the bottom; plain chamfered underbowl; octagonal stem with two-up-two-down rectangular panels on the sides; moulded octagonal lower base. Octagonal wooden cover, rounded and tapering to a ball finial. [NB: Kelly's (ibid.) notes that the earlier parts of the building date to the Norman and Transitional periods, but we have no information on the original font of this church]. [cf. Index entry for South Leigh No. 1 for the remains of a holy water-stoup in the porch]
