The Victoria County History (Oxford, vol. 6, 1959) notes: "There is documentary evidence for a church at Launton in 1157, [...] but it is probable that it existed about a hundred years earlier and that its advowson was given to Westminster Abbey with the manor by Edward the Confessor. [...] A chapel is mentioned in 1157. [...] Aisles and a tower were added in the late 12th and early 13th centuries. [...] The plain octagonal font is medieval"; the VCH (ibid.) also notes a "Buckler drawing in MS. Top. Oxon. a 67, f. 364" at the Bodleian Library.
