Font Notes:
Noted in Kelly's Oxford Directory of 1911: "the font was given by Richard Turrill, clerk of the parish in 1782". The Victoria County History (Oxford, vol. 5, 1957) notes: "There was a church at Garsington by the second half of the 12th century", and informs that "The 18th-century font was replaced by a fascimile of the font at Weston (Lincs.) and was given by a Fellow of Trinity", with no mention of the earlier font(s) here. The plan of the church interior in the VCH entry (ibid.) shows a font located ar the west end of the south aisle, just west of the doorway. The Parish web [http://website.lineone.net/~gmbrain/church.htm] [accessed 13 June 2012] informs: "The font is a Victorian copy of the 13C font at Weston, Lincs. and was given (probably by F J Morrell) in 1846. It replaced an 18C font given by Richard Turrill, Parish Clerk, in 1782." The later font is noted in Sherwood and Pevsner (1974): "Font. A Victorian copy of the E.E. font at Weston, Lincolnshire." [NB: we have no information on the original font of this church]. A photograph of the modern font taken on 24 September 2006 appears in the Oxfordshire Church Illustrations list in Flicker [http://flickr.com/photos/oxfordshire_church_photos/252420534/] [accessed 9 September 2007]
