Scene Description: Source caption: "The Parish Church of St Peter, Barford [...] The tower is a good example of those built in this district with Warwick sandstone about 600 years ago. There are shot marks on the sides of the tower believed to have been made in 1642 by the Parliamentary soldiers marching towards Kineton before the battle at Edgehill. With the exception of the tower, the 13th century mediæval church was re-built and enlarged in 1845."

There are two entries for this Barford [variant spelling] in Folio 243r of the Great Domesday Book [http://domesdaymap.co.uk/place/SP2760/barford/] [accessed 19 December 2014]; the part in the lordship of Hugh Hubold reports a priest in it, but not a church, theough there probably was one there. The Victoria County History (Warwickshire, vol. 5, 1949) notes: "About 1205 Henry de Bereford gave the church of Barford to the canons of Thelsford [...] The tower dates from the end of the 14th century; the remainder of the church was rebuilt in 1844 in the style of the same period. [...] The font and other furniture are modern." English Heritage [Listing NGR: SP2723460909] (1967) reports a "Mid-Cl9 font (1844) at western end of nave passage." [NB: we have no information of the font of the original church here]
