There is an entry for this Sherborne [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SP1714/sherborne/] [accessed 14 December 2018] but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. The entry for this parish in the Victoria County History (Gloucester, vol. 6, 1965) notes: "The earliest known reference to the church of Sherborne is in a confirmation by Pope Alexander III of the possessions of Winchcombe Abbey in 1175. [...] In the 17th century the church apparently consisted of nave and aisle with a 14th-century south-west tower and spire. [...] James Lenox Dutton rebuilt much of the church between 1743 and 1776 [...] John Dutton, Lord Sherborne, rebuilt the church c. 1850"; there is no mention of a font here in the VCH entry for this parish. The modern font here is noted in Verey & Brooks (1999-2002): "Mid-C19 font, octagonal, in a good Dec[orated] style". The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: SP1688514727] notes: "Anglican parish church. Late C13-early C14 and mid C19. Nave rebuilt possibly by Anthony Salvin (q.v. Sherborne House) for the 2nd Lord Sherborne and was completed by 1859. [...] Ornately carved C19 octagonal font." Octagonal mounted baptismal font; the upper basin sides are decorated with three shield-in-a-quatrefoil on each, separated from the larger quatrefoil motifs by a foliated moulding; the lower ends of the basin sides overhang in the manner of those on some 14th-century fonts; the octagonal stem is plain but for thin buttressed angles; the lower base is also octagonal and moulded. Octagonal oak cover with acorn-finial; modern. [NB: we have no information on the earlier fonts of this church]
