Whellan (1859) writes that the church was built between 1855 and 1857 and that: ''the pulpit and font are of Caen stone finely carved -the font, which has a cover in the shape of an octagonal pyramid culminating in a cross, being the gift of the Ven. Archdeacon Churton.'' Bulmer's Directory of 1890 paraphrases Whellan. The baptismal font consists of an octagonal basin with a chamfered upper rim on which runs an inscription [cf. Inscription below]; on the sides of the basin are cusped trefoil panels, all blank except one that has the initials IHS in it; the angles of the basin are carved with bud (?) clusters; a moulding decorates the lower angle of the basin, and the underbowl is decorated with a row of ball-flower motif; the octagonal stem has thin mouldings at top and bottom, and the lower base, also octagonal, is moulded. The wooden font cover is octagonal and flat, with carved sides and metal handle; probably contemporary with the font. The whole is raised on an octagonal plinth with kneeling stone.
