Church Notes: round-tower church (tower top added to in brick in the 15thC)
Blomefield (1805-1810) writes: "the church is dedicated to St. Peter [...] The steeple is octangular at top, and round at bottom, in which there are 2 bells; the nave and south porch are thatched, the south chapel and chancel tiled", and names "Robert de Brampton," first recorded rector, in 1312. Blomefield (ibid.) notes two entries in the Domesday survey (fols. 83, 217) for this parish, but they mention neither church nor priest in it. The present font is noted in Persner & Wilson (1997): "Font. Octagonal, with shields in quatrefoils." [NB: we have no information on the font of the original church here].
