Baptismal font consisting of an octagonal basin with vertical sides decorated with traceried panels separated by stylised buttresses; floral/foliage motifs at the lower angles; panelled underbowl; octagonal stem decorated with tracery panels similar to those on the basin; moulded lower base, also octagonal. Octagonal plinth. Flat octagonal wooden cover with metal ring handle. [NB: John Wilkes notes that there may be two 19th-century fonts in this church, possiby related to two different building campaigns at the church: "one 1835-37 by Charles Baker; the other 1897-98 by Walter Planck"]. The entry in Kelly's Directory of 1856 mentions only one font at St. Matthew's church.
