Font Notes:
There are two entries for Beestin [Regis] [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://domesdaymap.co.uk/place/TG1743/beeston-regis/] [accessed 10 April 2014], but neither mentions a church or cleric in it. Blomefield (1805-1810) writes: "The Church is dedicated to All-Saints, and is a rectory [...] In the reign of Edward I. the Earl of Oxford was patron; and the rector had then 22 acres of land [...] Ivo de Oldewincle occurs rector in Edward I's reign" [i.e., 1272-1307]. The font here is illustrated in Knott (2006). Baptismal font consisting of an octagonal basin raised on a plain stem, lower base and plinth, all octagonal and Victorian. [NB: we have no information on the original font(s) of this early church here]. Blomefield (ibid.) writes of the Beeston-Priory and Manor, "dedicated to St. Mary; founded by the lady Isabel de Cressy, in the reign of King John [i.e., 1199-1216], for canons of the order of St. Austin [...] Great ruins remain of this priory, and its church," [NB: we have no information on the furnishings of that church].
