Noted in Verey & Brooks (1999-2002): "Font. 1871; octagonal, Perp[endicular] style." Baptismal font consisting of an octagonal basin the sides of which are decorated with deeply-carved panels, each containing a quatrefoil inscribed in a circle; graded undebowlk chamfer; slender octagonal stem decorated with trefoil windows; narrow octagonal lower base, moulded. Octagonal wooden cover with slats arranged readially around a knob handle. [NB: there may have been a Norman basin somewhere in this church, the tower of which goes back to the late-12th century; the church was re-built in the late-14th century] [NB: note received from the Parish (e-mail to BSI of 15 January 2009]: "The present font (ca. 1871) was installed at St Mary's Olveston within the last 30 years. The whereabouts and indeed existence of any stone bowl is unknown. It is certainly not currently in Olveston church."]
