Scene Description: Source caption: "This Saxon font in St Clement’s, Worlaby, was discarded in the early twentieth century and used as a garden tub for sixty years." Pevsner, Harris and Antram (1989) are more reluctant to commit: "Font. disused, under the tower, circular. How can these strange depressions and blobs be dated?" Certainly not Saxon.

There are three entries for this Worlaby [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/TA0113/worlaby/] [accessed 28 January 2019] none of which mentions cleric or church in it. Pevsner, Harris and Antram (1989) note: "Font. disused, under the tower, circular. How can these strange depressions and blobs be dated?" The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: TA0153314020] notes: "Parish church. Cll tower arch, C13 - C14 arcades. Rebuilt 1873-1877 by W Scott Champion, incorporating re-used medieval masonry and details. [...] Tall Cll round-headed tower arch with chamfered through-imposts [...] Disused medieval (probably Romanesque) font in tower with circular bowl bearing circular and semicircular carved motifs." The old font, tu judge by the upper rim, and notwithstanding the crudeness of the work and the erosion damage, is probably late-medieval at best. The font in use is Victorian, an octagonal basin with windows or arches on alternate sides, angels and/or flowers on the corresponding underbowl sides, square pedestal with moulded sides. Wooden cover, octagonal and flat, with metal decoration and ring handle; also modern.
