Font Notes:
There are two entries for this Welby [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/SK9738/welby/] [accessed 21 January 2019] one of which reports a priest and a church in it. Pevsner, Harris and Antram (1989) note: "Font. C17, octagonal, decorated with shields and oak leaves." The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: SK9754138186] notes: "Parish Church; C13, C14, C15, C16, restored 1873 by J. H. Hakewill [...] The C17 font is octagonal and decorated with shields and oak leaves." The panels of the basin have also Tudor roses and branches of what appears to be a conifer, with similar motifs on the underbowl chamfer, which is separated from the basin sides by a roll moulding; the pedestal is also octagonal and decorated with blank panels. The wooden cover, octagonal, plain and flat ,has a Latin cross finial/handle and is modern.
