There is an entry for this Welford [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SP6480/welford/] [accessed 21 May 2015]; it mentions a priest, but not a church, though there probably was one in it. Lewis' Dictionary of 1848 reports "an old font" in this church. Noted in Pevsner & Cherry (1973): "Octagonal, with pointed-quatrefoiled arches and in the spandrels quatrefoils with pointed quatrefoils in them -- probably late C13."
