Lewis' Dictionary of 1848 notes: "the font has the date 1363 inscribed on it." Parker (1855) writes: "The font is very fine P[erpendicular]; an octagon, with rich panelling and figures around the pedestal, and angels in the panels of the bowl." Listed in Cautley (1982) as 15th-century font bearing an inscription and a notable cover. Knott (2006) provides a series of images of this font [www.suffolkchurches.co.uk/tuddstm.htm] [accessed 13 March 2007], notes the "dedicatory inscription from 1433" and points out that the carving has been re-cut. Knott (ibid.) also suggests that the kneeling figure in one of the panels "may be intended as Mary of the Annunciation, or it may just be the donor Agnes Silvester, showing her piety."
