Scene Description: Source caption: "The former Church of St Michael, Stamford. There was a medieval church here, with a mid 12th century foundation, which mostly survived until 1832. On 8th June 1832, that church collapsed. In early 1835 rebuilding began and the new church was consecrated in October 1836. It closed in 1962 and remained so for near 20 years, by which time vandals had destroyed nearly all of the remaining fittings. The building was sold in 1981 and then housed two shops, a building society, and an insurance company in the tower, which is accessed from the north, on High Street."
