Scene Description: Source caption: "12th Century onwards. A clerestoried nave, chancel, north aisle and chapel with western tower, which was rebuilt in 1908. The north arcade is 13th C. of 3 bays, also 13th C. tower arch. The font is a 15th C. octagonal bowl carved with coats of arms. The oldest part of the church is the wall of the north aisle with the doorway in it believed to be Saxon but is more probably Early Norman dating back to AD 1100, the rest of the building appears to be Perpendicular in style dating from AD 1350 to AD 1500. The nave roof is 15th century."

There is no idividual entry for Saxilby in the Domesday survey. Pevsner, Harris and Antram (1989) note: "Font. Octagonal, Perp[endicular], with flatly carved coats of arms of the d'Aubigny family of South Ingleby." The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: SK8951776151] notes: "Parish church of St. Botolph. C12, C13, C15, 1819, 1908. [...] In the chancel is a C17 chair, all. other fittings are C20 except 'for the font which is a C15 octagonal bowl and stem with cusped shields to the sides of the bowl." The eight coats of arms on the sides of the octagonal font are illustrated on a panel handing on the wall of the church next to the font; they are those of the D'Aubigny, Tibetot, Umfraville, St. Liz, Pigot, Blake, Folliot and Bigod families [www.flickr.com/photos/52219527@N00/16278790282] [accessed 1 January 2018], brightly painted with the corresponding colours; the basin stands on a plain octagonal pedestal base and a short splaying octagonal-to-square lower base; the plinth is round and plain. The wooden cover is octagonal, flat and plain, with a metal ring handle; modern.
