There are seven entries for this Morton [variant spellings] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/TF0923/morton/] [accessed 25 December 2018] one of which, in the lordship and tenancy of Oger the Breton in 1086, reports a priest and a church in it. Pevsner, Harris and Antram (1989) note: "Font. Big, octagonal, Perp[endicular]. Shields in fields with low ogee arches. One of them the Instruments of the Passion." The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: TF0982624010] notes: "Parish church. Mid C12, late C12, late C13, c.1300, C14, C15, restored 1860. [...] Mid C12 doorway to west with round head, imposts, chamfered jambs, hood mould and plank door. [...] C15 font with 3 stepped octagonal plinth, octagonal pedestal, octagonal bowl with shields containing emblems of the Passion, set under richly cusped ogee heads with finials and ornate pinnacles."
