![Source caption: "Herodias with Salome and headless John the Baptist - Font set on a 13c base, the bowl is perhaps a 15-16c copy of the original - The 8 sides could be descriptions of mystery play scenes [...] The key here, I think, is the fact it is obviously by a local hand. It may simply be a sequence of scenes the carver liked (I see no reason to think this is a 'copy' of an earlier font, that would be most unusual!). I am sure about the matrimony scene - all the imagery is there. The curiosity is that the nearest seven sacrament font to Leasingham is a good 30 miles off - perhaps he had seen a common source. I'm pretty sure about the Last Trump scene too, as it is usually associated with Christ in Judgement. As to the rest, I suppose we can never be certain."](/static-50478a99ec6f36a15d6234548c59f63da52304e5/others/permission_not_available.jpg)

Scene Description: Source caption: "Just inside the church is the font – the base and stem are Early English but the octagonal bowl is believed to be 16th century, judging by the costumes of the figures, but carved in an archaic crude style with biblical and symbolic figures, the underside of the bowl is also decorated with carved figures."
