The object used as baptismal font in St. Margaret's is described in Pevsner, Harris and Antram (1989): "Font. Put together from several pieces. The foot is a keystone of a Norman rib-vault. It comes from Kirkstead Abbey. The bowl is a late medieval kitchen mortar." Pevsner & al. (ibid.) note a 'baptismal shell' in this church: "Silver, circular, with eight sunk medallions with scenes fom the Life of Christ. C19. Brought back from Bethlehem in 1860." The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: TF2372468990] notes: "Parish church. Mid C13, C15, 1750, heavily restored and partly rebuilt by W. Scorer in 1890-1. [...] Font consisting of several medieval fragments; the base, a keystone of a late C12 rib vault from Kirkstead Abbey; the bowl, of Barnack stone with bulbous corners, discovered in St. Lawrence Street, Horncastle."
