The cover is identified in the SLHA as made in 1949 -- disappeared font? (the one from the Domesday-time church here)
Font Notes:
There are three entries for Harmston [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/SK9762/harmston/] [accessed 24 November 2018], one of which reports a priest and a church in it. Pevsner, Harris and Antram (1989) note: "Font Circular, but the underside octagonal. With large flat arches or scallops; again decidedly odd." [NB: the 'again' in Pevsner et al., refers to the presence of decorative elements in this church that are "impossible for the Middle Ages, impossible for Withers [who renovated in 1868 the 1717 church], yet unlikely for 1717"]. The present font, noted and illustrated in the Society for Lincolnshire History and Archaeology [http://www.slha.org.uk/photogallery/?thistopic=Churches_InteriorFonts] [accessed 24 Novemver 2018], consists of roughly hemispherical basin that is an obvious re-cut from an earlier, possible Norman font; the square lower base and the plinth are both modern additions or replacements. The SLHA further notes that the present cover on the font was made of oak and wrought iron in 1949.
