Scene Description: Source caption: "St Lawrence, Fulstow. The walls of the church of St Lawrence have the remains of arcades, which point to the fact that there were north and south aisles and that this building comes from the Early English period - about 1160 to 1180. There are the remains of three bays on the outer wall of the south side and two on the north. The font is also Early English. Inside the porch entrance are two 14th century effigies of a cross-legged knight, Sir Robert de Hilton, and his lady."

There are four entries for Fulstow [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/TF3297/fulstow/] [accessed 12 July 2019], none of which mentions cleric or church in it. Pevsner, Harris and Antram (1989) note: "Font. Octagonal bowl on a circular E[arly] E[nglish] base with four attached shafts." The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: TF3241697752] notes: "Parish church. Early C13, with 1868 rebuilding. [...] The C13 font has a plain octagonal bowl and shafted base and has a C19 facetted wooden cover." The base consists of a broad central shaft and clustered colonnettes set at 90-degree angles, all with moulded capitals and bases; one side of the basin shows evidence of an anchoring spot for an old cover; the old plinth is round but has a short kneeling stone protrusion that may at some point have been longer.
