There are three entries for this Fenton [variant spellings] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SK7983/fenton/] [accessed 1 November 2018] none of which mentions cleric or church in it. Pevsner, Harris and Antram (1989) write: "Font. E[arly] E[nglish], plain, octagonal." The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: SK8785250687] notes: "Parish Church, C12, C13, C14, C15, 1838, restored 1875 and 1888. [...] Table font with fragments of C13 capitals and bases used in more recent reconstruction."
