Lewis' Dictionary of 1848 notes: "The church contains an elegant modern font, executed in Caen stone, and designed in the style of the 14th century; it is octagonal in form, with projecting ogee arched canopied niches, within which are alternatively displayed the Evangelistic symbols interspersed with shields bearing various crosses and the sacred monogram I H C." [NB: Lewis' (ibid.) dates the original church to the Early English period but we have no information on the older font(s) of this church]. [NB: Lewis' (ibid.) reports one more modern font: "a beautiful piece of workmanship, of hexagonal form", in St. Matthew's, a district church erected in 1841 -- this font is not listed in this Index on account of its late date]
