Scene Description: Source caption: "The font dates from around 1200, much the earliest survival of the medieval church on this site. It is circular on a square base with shafts at each corner. The faces of the bowl are lightly carved with a decorative frieze.The base has been recently restored. October 2016."

There is an entry fpr Carlton [-le-Moorland] [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/SK9057/carlton-le-moorland/] [accessed 21 October 2018]; it mentions a priest and a church in it. Pevsner, Harris and Antram (1989) note: "Font. Of c. 1200. Circular, with shafts at the angles and a variety of incised arcading." The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: SK9081057898] reports: "Parish church. C11, C13, C15, late C16 restored 1890-1 by C Hodgson Fowler. [...] C12 circular font with octagonal corner shafts."
