There are two entries for Caister [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://domesdaymap.co.uk/place/TG5112/caister/] [accessed 28 May 2014], neither of which mentions a church or cleric in it. Blomefield (1805-1810) writes: "The town was divided into 2 parishes, Castor Trinity, and Castor St. Edmund. The present font in this church is noted in Pevsner & Wilson (1997): "Font. C15. Quite remarkably big. Stem with eight attached shafts. Bowl with alternation of quetrefoils containing shields with angels and quatrefoils pushed down in their square fields by two mouchettes joining up above them. Castellated rim. The font comes from Eye, Suffolk." [NB: the 'angels' noted above, at least one of them, appears on one of the shields, and not in the usual position holding the shields; some of the shields have other emblems]. Noted and illustrated in Knott (2006): "quite massive 15th century font […] brought here from Eye in Suffolk by the Victorians, apparently. it is rather badly whitewashed, but the castellated top is interesting, and reminiscent of the smaller font at Norwich St Lawrence."
