Scene Description: Source caption: "The church dates from the late 11th century onwards, and was restored in the 19th century. It has a West tower, nave with south aisle, south porch and a rectangular chancel. The West tower is 11th century, one of the few complete Anglo-Saxon Towers remaining in England. The north nave wall was rebuilt in the 19th century, the chancel has plain north and south wall and also dates from that time. The south Arcade is Norman and was extended in the 13th and 14th century. The South porch is 14th century also, although the doorway was restored in the 19th century and has a 20th century door. The South aisle has a West window of 13th century which was restored in the 19th century."

There are three entries for Harpswell [variant spelling] in te Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/SK9389/harpswell/] [accessed 24 November 2018], one of reports "0.5 churches" in it. Pevsner, Harris and Antram (1989) nore: "Font. Transitional, drum-shaped, with blank arcading, the arches straight-sided." On-site notes by Mark Hurd (18 January 2007): "Best preserved side of font faces into the church. South, west and north sides are much damaged and repaired with large segment brokent out, replaced and crudely repaired. Lead lining is also cracked and crudely repaired. This font is set upon what appears to be a recent (Edwardian? / Victorian?) lower plinth with a step for the vicar. A second plinth is on top of this and appears to be much older (possibly not as old as the font?) and again heavily damaged and repaired to the rear [...] Spoke with churchwarden who regrettably knows nothing of the history of the font other than it is quite old." Tub-shaped basin raised on a quadrangular base and plinth, the latter with 'kneeling stone'; the basin is decorated with a roll moulding at the upper rim, a blind arcade of narrow pointed -practically triangle-headed- arches all around. Round flat cover.
