Church Notes: The church is described in several sources as Mozarabic of the 10th or 11th century -- the church was dismantled from its original site in Basarán, and reconstructed in Formigal
Described and illustrated in the corresponding entry in García Omedes (2005) [www.romanicoaragones.com] [accessed 18 January 2007]: rectangular font, with triple groove all along the upper rim surface; three of the sides are decorated, two of them, the front and left, bear large chrismons; the left side bears also a smaller Latin cross on the upper right corner; the right side of the basin bears an incised cross. As with many Pyrinean fonts on both sides of the border, the large indentation cut into the front panel -without regard to the beautiful chrismon thus destroyed!- was made at a later date to fit the cover locking hardware. The chrismons on this font are catalogued as of the Visigothic type [="de aspecto visigótico [...] Trinitario simple"] in www.claustro.com with date in the early 12th century. There is a second vessel, almost identical in shape to this font serving as planter outside the church; it has no motifs or symbols visible on its sides, but it does have the cut in the front(?) panel. [NB: could it be that this font was damaged during the early stages and discarded? The presence of the cut in the rim would argue against this idea, though]. There is also a wall-mounted stoup in this church, a roughly hemispherical basin decorated with a rope moulding at the upper rim, a row of ball motifs below and a pattern of arcade-like ribbing below; appears late-medieval.
