Font Notes:
Noted in the Victoria County History (East Riding of Yorkshire, 2002): "Dunnington chapel probably existed by the mid 12th century [...] It was served by a curate in the 16th century, in 1595–6 with Nunkeeling church. The fabric was decayed in 1575 [...] the chancel was in disrepair in 1623, and in 1663 the chapel was said to be 'quite demolished' for lack of repairs and the parishioners at Dunnington were ordered to attend Beeford church instead [...] The present chapel of St. Nicholas was built in 1879 on the site of the earlier building, possibly to designs by H. Roumieu Gough [...] Fittings include a small 19th-century font." This modern font consists of an octagonal stone basin with plain vertical sides chamfered at both ends; the underbowl moulded and decorated with baal (?) floral motif; marble shaft and moulded round-to-square stone lower base. Dated to the 1879 new building. [NB: we have no information on the earlier -12th-century?- font of this church]
