Font Notes:
There is an entry for Mesey Hampton [variant spelling] in Domesday survey [http://domesdaymap.co.uk/place/SU1199/meysey-hampton/] [accessed 12 July 2014]; it mentions a priest in it, but no church or churchlands. Noted in Verey & Brooks (1999-2002): "Fine font by Brooks with bold foliage carving" [NB: James Brooks, architect (1825-1901) [source: OxfordDNB]]. The font now in this church is a 19th-century Victorian replacement, probably of the 1870s: a square bains with a deeply-carved vine all around its sides, raised on a central shaft and four angle colonnettes, all with moulded capitals and bases, on a quadrangular plinth. Wooden octagonal cover, flat and decorated with metal ornamentation and handle; probably of the same period [NB: the fabric of the church goes back to the 13th century, and there was a priest in this place in 1086, but we have no information of the earlier font(s) of this church].
