The 'Salopian shreds and patches (issue of 13 August 1879: 204) reports on the re-opening of Guilsfield Church on 7 August of that year and notes: "The old font has been restored and removed to the west end of the church near the tower". The RCAHMW (Montgomery, 1911) reports a font of the 15th century in this church [visit of 29 July 1909]. The CPAT Montgomery Churches Survey [www.cpat.demon.co.uk] [accessed 31 December 2006] notes that a baptismal font, perhaps of the 12th century, "was restored and moved to the west end near the porch" at the time of the 1879 restoration of St Aelhaiarn's by G.E. Street.
