Thurlby (2006) nottes: "The pronounced taper on the bowl is most closely allied to Pistyll where the ring-chain motif seems to be the inspiration for the simplified version at Llanfinnan [...] The meandering ribbon interlace lacks the sense of order [...] and it seems fair to attribute the Llanfinnan font to a lesser hand." [NB: the lower sides of the round basin have been savagely cut with four chamfers to make the underbowl fit onto the modern square pedestal base -- this probably occurred at the time of the construction of the new church (described in Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of 1870-1872 as being "in very poor imitation of Norman")]
