Font Notes:
There are five entries for Theddingworth [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SP6685/theddingworth/] [accessed 26 August 2015], none of which mention cleric or church in it. The Victoria County History (Leicestershire, vol. 5, 1964) notes: "Before 1150 Ralph pincerna granted the church of Theddingworth to Alcester Abbey (Warws.) [...] The earliest remaining features are the north arcade, the archway between chancel and north chapel, and the cylindrical font; these date from the 12th century. [...] The font had in 1798 a high 'Gothic' wooden canopy; the present elaborate canopy, in a similar style, dates from 1893 and is the work of G. F. Bodley." Pevsner (1984) ignores the font itself but mentions the font cover: "Splendid tall cover with doors by G. F. Bodley, 1893. Masses of pinnacles, crockets, and buttresses." The font itself is roughly cylindrical, with a falt moulding at the upper rim and a thin roll moulding right down below; the basin widens slighltly at the bottom with a chamfer, and there is a quadrangular plinth with one side step.
