There is an entry for this Stretton [-en-le-Field] [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SK3012/stretton-en-le-field/] [accessed 20 July 2015], under Leicestershire, but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. There is another entry for another part of the same name under Derbyshire [http://opendomesday.org/place/SK3011/stretton-en-le-field/] [accessed 20 July 2015], also without a mention of priest or church in it. Kelly's Directory of 1891 states: "the octagonal font dates from c. 1662". Noted in Pevsner (1984) [after Cox?]: "Font. Dated convincingly by Cox c. 1662". Leicestershire Churches [www.leicestershirechurches.co.uk/stretton-en-le-field-church-st-michael/] [accessed 20 July 2015] notes: "The octagonal font with tapering bowl is dated to around 1660 whilst the cover is a memorial to a vicar who died in 1927.
