There is an entry for Staunton [Harold] [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SK3720/staunton-harold/] [accessed 26 August 2015], but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. Pevsner (1984) writes: "In the SW corner is the completely plain font with its not very spectacular font cover". [NB: Pevsner notes that this church was built in 1653, in the midst of the Commonwealth]. The oak font cover is dated to 1665 in the National Trust [www.nationaltrustcollections.org.uk/object/426806] [accessed 26 August 2015].
