Scene Description: the image shows a restoration worker digging what appears to be the base of a baptismal font out of a wall (?); the object appears to be poly-lobed and splaying, a type of base found in some fonts of the Gothic period -- we have not been able to locate any further information on this object, probably located now in a museum somewhere.

The baptismal font of the original Kristkirken [Christ Church] probably dated from the mid-12th century, the date of the fabric of the building. The rendition of the interior -as it may have looked in the 12th century- by Marianne Brochmann shows a style of Scandinavian Romanesque font decorated with an almost geometrical interlace [such as the one on the Norwegian font at Blake -- cf. entry in M. Solhaug]. [NB: we have no information on what the original font really looked like]. There is a 1890 drawing by Alf Hofflund [https://nn.wikipedia.org/wiki/Restaureringa_av_Nidarosdomen] [accessed 31 December 2016] that shows a restoration worker digging what appears to be the base of a baptismal font out of a wall (?); the object appears to be poly-lobed and splaying, a type of base found in some fonts of the Gothic period; we have not been able to locate any further information on this object, probably located now in a museum somewhere.
