Font Notes:
The Parish web site [www.llanddewiskirrid.co.uk] notes: "The old font, of some antiquity, stands at the back of the church by its Victorian counterpart." Described and illustrated in Thurlby (2006) [NB: the photographs of the fonts at Llanvapley and Llandewi Skirrid [figs. 246 & 247] appear to have been switched by mistake]. The font at Llanddewi Skirrid consists of a bucket-shaped basin plain but for a zigzag (chevron?) pattern incised around the upper surface of the upper rim. Thurlby (ibid.) notes the presence on the basin surfaces of "considerable amounts of limewash and even distinct traces of paint: yellow ochre on the lip, and red ochre patterning on a white ground below". The squat base is octagonal.
