Glynne's notes published in 1860 record the presence of the font but in a different location of the interior: "The font is now in the chancel, and apparently never used. It has a large circular bowl on a quadrangular stem, with angles chamfered, and no base". A mid-19th century print of the font, attributed to H. Longueville Jones shows the font exactly as described in Glynne, which dates the lower base [and plinth?] to later in the 1800s [Glynne's notes, print, etc. are reproduced in Reginald F. Vincent & Mark E. Vincent [www.freewebs.com/llanddew/churchofstdavid.htm#glynne] [accessed 17 December 2006]]. Noted and illustrated in Thurlby (2006) as the basin of an early font related to those at Llantilio Crossenny, Bredwardine and Kilpeck but, "unlike the plain bowls of the related fonts, Llandew [sic] has a serpent incised in its western quadrant". The font is noted and illustrated in the StayinWales site [www.stayinwales.co.uk/wales_picture.cfm?p=2376] [accessed 11 December 2006]: "large lead lined stone bowl dating from mediaeval times, with an octagonal stem and a nineteenth century base" [cf. supra]. [NB: discerning the incised serpent noted above is like reading identifiable shapes in a cloud; even if the incissions could represent a serpent, are they original?]. [We are grateful to Reginald F.
