There are two entries for Mowsley [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SP6489/mowsley/] [accessed 19 August 2015], neither of which mentions cleric or church in it. A font here is illustrated in Nichols (1795-1811). Noted and illustrated in Upcott (1818). The Victoria County History (Leicestershire, vol. 5, 1964) notes: "The church at Mowsley, like that at Shearsby, was a chapelry in the ancient parish of Knaptoft. It has been believed that part of the west wall of Mowsley church belonged to the 12th century, [...] but the earliest surviving features in the building suggest that much of the fabric dates from the middle of the 13th century. [...] The church was probably built c. 1250 [...] The only certainly 14th-century features are the font and a window in the chancel. The font is octagonal with simple decorated panels, each containing a trefoiled arch in low relief." English Heritage [Listing NGR: SP6470689072] (1966) notes: "Font is late C13: octagonal with trefoiled panels, mounted on a Victorian base." In Pevsner (1984): "Font. Octagonal, Dec[orated], with very simple panels, each enclosing one pointed-trefoiled arch."
