There is an entry for this Westwell [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/TQ9947/westwell/] [accesssed 1 January 2022]; it mentions neither priest nor church in it. Torr (1930) writes: "Of Norman date, the fonts at Upper Hardres, Westwell, Tilmanstone and Fordwich (without angle shafts) may serve as examples of the arcaded bowl type". The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: TQ9901247488] notes: "C13, except C16 south porch" [no font mentioned]. [NB: the material of this font is identified in some sources as 'Bethersden marble', a fossiliferous freshwater limestone found in the Weald Clay; this 'marble' [not a true marble in geological terms] changes name according to the nearest village where it is quarried (Bethersden, Purbeck, etc.), and is often known generically as 'Sussex marble']. Noted in Leach (1975) as a font made of Purbeck marble: "bowl with five panels on each face; there are no subsidiary shafts" [source given: Mr. V.J. Torr].
