There are four entries for Cranford [St Andrew and St John] [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/XX0000/cranford-st-andrew-and-st-john/] [accessed 6 June 2019] none of which mentions cleric or church in it. Mee (1945) lists a medieval font here. In the Victoria County History (Northampton, vol. 3, 1920): "The nave arcades are the oldest part of the building, dating from the end of the 12th century. [...] The font is of the 14th century, with a plain octagonal bowl moulded on the under side; it has a flat 17th century cover." The church interior plan in the VCH shows the font in the west end of the south aisle, just west of the south entranceway. There is an inscription in Gothic lettering on the upper surface of the plinth, around the base of the font, carved in what appears to be black marble: "He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved. Mark 16:16".
