The present baptismal font consists of an octagonal basin raised on a central shaft and eight outer colonnettes, probably from the main re-building towards the end of the 19th century. The Parish Council web site [www.sagart.force9.co.uk/history.html] informs: "Agatha Christie's father gave much of the money to build the new church and she was baptised in it [...] and used the font in one of her early stories". The present font is listed in Historic England [Listing NGR: SX9073764341]: "Fine octagonal marble font, given by the architect (information from the incumbent) with similarities of design to Butterfield's font at All Saints, Babbacombe" [NB: no reference found in it to the old font]. The old font from this church could be one of three now [February 2009] found inside the church at Modbury [cf. Index entry for Modbury]
