There is an entry for Hathern [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SK5022/hathern/] [accessed 21 December 2018] but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. A font here is noted and illustrated in Upcott (1818). Described in Pevsner (1984): "Font. Extremely crude, Norman, with intersecting arches." The Harston Village web site [www.harston.com/parish04.htm] informs: "The Saxon [!] font is reputed to be the oldest in Leicestershire. It was discarded in the 1860 restoration in favour of a new one near the church door and until 1928 stood in the churchyard and rectory gardens. It is now used again. The Victorian font of the 1860's stands by the Remembrance Corner." [NB: the later font is not listed in this Index]
