Font Notes:
No individual entry found for Mickleby in the Domesday survey. Baptismal font, probaly of the Victorian period, consisting of a stone octagonal basin raised on a slender round marble column, a circular lower base and a quadrangular plinth; the upper side of the basin is chamfered; only one side of the basin has any decoration, the front, facing east, the altar, and it is decorated with Christ's initials, IHS, inscribed in a circle; there are two levels on the underbowl: the upper is a graded moulding, the lower is decorated with deeply carved foliage; the stem has round mouldings at either end; the lower base is made up of two broad roll mouldings. Pyramidal wooden cover, octagonal, painted and with a Latin cross finial. [NB: we have no information on the font of the earlier (17thC?) church here].
