There is an entry for [Great] Houghton [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SE4306/great-houghton/] [accessed 8 November 2018] but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it.
[NB: there is something odd about the baptismal font at Gt. Houghton: it is a very narrow font consisting of an octagonal basin with a tall concave chamfer raised on an octagonal pillar, both totally plain but for a round moulding at the connecting point between the basin and stem; the font has a look of a re-cut, rather than a new one; one would have to look at the inner well of the basin -now covered by a new lead lining- to discern any possible patterns of old carving or adze work, as well as drain hole, but there are a couple of spots on the upper basin side that look like old damage that even the re-cutting could not hide. Possibly a re-cycled font from the original ca. 1580 church here?]
