There is an entry for this Foston [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://domesdaymap.co.uk/place/TA1055/foston-on-the-wolds/] [accessed 28 August 2014], and it reports a church in it. A font here is noted in Bulmer's Directory of 1892 simply as "circular and ancient" [source: 1999 transcription by Colin Hinson & Peter Nelson [www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/ERY/Fostononthewolds/Fostononthewolds92.htm] [accessed 21 September 2006]. There is no mention of any font in Pevsner & Neave (1995). English Heritage [Listing NGR: TA1006455819] (1966) reports a "C12 tub font" in this church. The font consists of a plain cylindrical basin raised on a circular brick plinth; the interior of the basin is lead lined. There is damage to the upper rim of the basin, probably where the metal staples of the old cover were located. Plain and flat cover, modern.
