There is an entry for this Ansley [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://domesdaymap.co.uk/place/SP2991/ansley/] [accessed 28 November 2014], but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. The Victoria County History (Warwickshire, 1947), in a description of Ansley Hall, notes: "In the grounds of the modern house next south [of the 'Orangery' building] are several fragments of carved masonry, from Caldecote Church [...] and some broken scraps of a 12th-century round font bowl. The complete lower part of the bowl, used as a flower-pot, shows the shfta of arcade ornament around the side, and the two or three other pieces show that the arcading with round heads contained carving, possibly human figures". Later in the same source the present font at Ansley St. Lawrence's is described as modern. This new font is octagonal con carved panels and is located at the west end of the nave, north side. [NB: the church in Caldecote is dedicated to St. Theobold and St. Chad]
