There are two entries for [East] Norton [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://domesdaymap.co.uk/place/SK7800/east-norton/] [accessed 1 March 2015], neither of which mentions a cleric or church in it. English Heritage [Listing NGR: SK7829000452] (1966) reports: "Font is C15, octagonal on 4 shafts, each face a traceried panel." Pevsner (1984) writes: "Font. Dec[orated], octagonal, with all different tracery patters, crudely carved." the octagonal basin is raised on a central shaft and four outer colonnettes, all very irregular, and an octagonal plinth. Wooden cover, octagonal and totally plain; modern.
