There are three entries for Toynton [variant spelling] in the Domesday Survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/XX0000/toynton-all-saints-and-st-peter/] [accessed 14 April 2017], two of which report a church in each. Pevsner, Harris and Antram (1989) write: "Font. Octagonal, with square leaf motifs against the stem and four shields and four simple arches against the bowl." The Historic England site [Listing NGR: TF4040163442] notes: "Fine C14 octagonal font, with traceried side panels, the stem is encriched with fleurons." The baptismal font, in the Perpendicular (?) style; consists of an octagonal basin with vertical sides decorated with shields and tracery patterns; panelled octagonal stem with foliage decoration; plain octagonal lower base. Plain flat wooden cover with tall Latin cross finial. The basin appears to be cracked horizontally through its middle. A recent [2005] photograph of this font by Paul Gooch, can be found in the Gillott Family History web site [www.gillottfamilyhistory.com] [accessed 18 September 2006]. [cf. Index entry for Toynton No. 2 for a square basin found in this church, to the west of the tower, now [i.e., ca. 1989] serving as base for a cross].
