No individual entry found for Mnasfield Woodhouse in the Domesday survey. The Transactions of the Thoroton Society for the Summer of 1904 provide a description of St Edmund's and its contents, among which "a plain stone font, which Sir Stephen Glynne pronounced to be Norman. Its simplicity has been impaired by having texts painted round it in recent years". In Walkerdine & Buxton (1907). Cox (1912) mentions a "square Norm[an] bowl of font" in this church. The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: SK5401763212] notes; "Parish church. 1310. Spire 1304. Restored 1847 by Sir G. G. Scott. Further restored 1859. Chancel restored 1878. Chantry chapel c.1920. Clergy vestry 1930. [...] Font, C14, restored, octagonal plinth, stem with water holding base, round tub, C19 conical wooden cover." The restored font, as displayed in a 1988 photograph Courtesy of Nottinghamshire Archives [www.inspirepicturearchive.org.uk/image/13285/St_Edmunds_Church_Font_Mansfield_Woodhouse_c_1988] [accessed 12 December 2019] shows a plain cylindrical basin raised on a moulded octagonal pedestal base and a lower base of similar shape; it it topped with a modern wooden font cover. This font is noted and illustrated in the Southwell & Nottingham Church History Project
[http://southwellchurches.nottingham.ac.uk/mansfield-woodhouse/pfont.jpg] [accessed 12 December 2019]: "The medieval stone font has a round tub on an octagonal base and is situated at the entrance. It was restored to the church, having been found early in the 19th century buried in the churchyard. The conical font cover dates from the 19th century. Refacing has removed all signs of age."
