No individual entry found for Great Harwood in the Domesday survey. The entry for this township in the Victoria County History (Lancaster, vol. 6, 1911) notes: "The parochial chapel of St. Lawrence has been mentioned under the date 1390 [...] The commissioners of 1546 certified that Richard Wood, priest, was incumbent of the chantry; he had licence to christen, marry and bury and to minister the sacraments to the neighbouring inhabitants, who numbered 400 'houselinge people.' [...] The ancient invocation of the chapel has long been changed to that of the Hesketh chantry, St. Bartholomew. [...] The font now in use stands under the tower, and has on one of its eight sides the initials and date I E 1662. The other sides have traceried panels." Pevsner (1969) writes: "In the S porch the panelled shaft of the Perp[endicular] font." The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: SD7338732716] [accessed 14 March 2019] notes: "Church, early C16 with C15 tower and C19 chancel. [...] font dated 1662, with letters "IE"".
